HOWO 6x4 Cargo Truck — WD615 371HP, HW19710 Gearbox, LHD & RHD
This is a HOWO 6x4 cargo truck built on the proven HOWO-7 heavy driveline — WD615.47 engine at 371HP, HW19710 gearbox, and 12R22.5 tyres on a six-wheel-drive axle layout. It is catalogued in the light truck range by some importers, but make no mistake: the chassis, engine, and transmission are full HOWO-7 heavy spec. If you move bagged goods, building materials, or general freight over rough or unpaved roads and need a 6x4 drive rather than a standard 4x2, this truck is the step up. We supply inspected, refurbished units in left-hand drive and right-hand drive, shipped CIF to ports across Africa and the Middle East.

A 6x4 Driveline in a Cargo Body — What That Means for You
Most light cargo trucks run a 4x2 layout: two driven rear wheels, suitable for paved roads with predictable loads. The HOWO 6x4 cargo truck is different. It has six wheels across three axles, with four of those wheels driven. That changes what you can do with it.
- Better traction on bad roads. Mud, gravel, laterite, loose sand — a 6x4 distributes drive force across two rear axles instead of one. You lose fewer loads to getting stuck.
- Higher payload capacity. Three axles spread the weight. You can load heavier per trip without overloading individual axle ratings.
- More braking control on grades. Downhill on a loaded truck on a dirt road, two driven axles with engine braking is more stable than one.
For buyers moving goods between towns on secondary roads in East Africa, West Africa, or inland routes in the Middle East, that 6x4 layout is a practical advantage, not a specification detail.
Compared to our HOWO 4x2 cargo truck, this model carries more, handles worse roads, and costs more to run — the right choice depends entirely on your route and payload.
Engine and Drivetrain — WD615.47, 371HP, HW19710
The engine is the WD615.47, a turbocharged six-cylinder diesel producing 371HP. This is the same engine family that powers the broader HOWO 371 heavy-truck range — millions of units in service across China, Africa, and Central Asia. That matters for one reason: parts.
- WD615 components are stocked by suppliers in Johannesburg, Nairobi, Lagos, Dubai, and most commercial ports. You are not hunting for specialist parts.
- Local mechanics who have worked on HOWO trucks know this engine. Training cost is low.
- Rebuild kits, injectors, turbochargers, and head gaskets are available in both OEM and aftermarket grades at a range of price points.
The HW19710 gearbox is a ten-speed manual transmission widely used across the HOWO range. Ratios are suited to loaded operation on mixed road surfaces. Like the engine, parts and workshop knowledge are widely available. Tyres are 12R22.5, a standard commercial size. Replacements are available at tyre depots throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the Gulf.
Cab Options — HW76 and HW79
Units come with one of two cab configurations:
- HW76 single bunk: Shorter sleeper cab, suitable for regional work and day runs. Lighter overall weight. Good visibility.
- HW79 double bunk: Extended cab with two berths. Built for long-haul drivers who sleep in the truck. Slightly higher kerb weight.
Specify your preference when you enquire. We will match available stock to your requirement or advise on lead time if a specific configuration needs to be sourced. Both cab types sit at Euro II–III emission standard, which meets import requirements in most of our target markets. If your country has stricter emission regulations, confirm this before purchase.
Inspection, Refurbishment, and What You Receive
Every unit we supply goes through a documented inspection and refurbishment process before it leaves our yard. This is not a wash-and-paint operation.
Inspection covers:
- Engine compression, oil consumption, and coolant system
- Gearbox and transfer case for noise, leaks, and shift quality
- Front and rear axles, wheel bearings, and differential
- Frame and cross-members for cracks, corrosion, and previous repair welds
- Brake system — linings, drums, air lines, and valves
- Electrical system, lights, and instruments
Refurbishment scope depends on the unit's condition. Common work includes engine top-end service, brake reline, cab respray, and tyre replacement to matched tread depth. We document what was done and provide this with the vehicle paperwork. You receive: original title document, engine and chassis number verification photos, inspection report, and pre-shipment photos. No surprises on arrival.
LHD and RHD — Converted In-House
HOWO trucks from the Chinese market are left-hand drive (LHD). Many of our buyers operate in right-hand-drive (RHD) markets — South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and others.
We handle the conversion in-house. Our workshop moves the steering column, pedal assembly, instrument cluster, and associated hydraulic and electrical components to the right-hand side. The conversion is structural, not cosmetic. We do not fit a secondary wheel on the wrong side.
If you are importing into an LHD market — Iraq, UAE, most of West Africa — units can ship as-is or we can source LHD stock directly. Specify LHD or RHD in your enquiry. Conversion adds to lead time; allow for this in your planning.
Shipping, Import, and How to Buy
We export on CIF terms (Cost, Insurance, Freight) to approximately 40 countries. That means the truck is loaded, insured, and the freight to your destination port is included in the price you are quoted. You handle customs clearance and inland transport from the port.
Our main destination ports include Durban, Mombasa, Lagos, Port Sudan, Dar es Salaam, Lusaka (Beira transit), and Jebel Ali. If your port is not on this list, ask — we have shipped to smaller ports and can advise on routing.
Buyer checklist before you commit:
- Confirm your country allows import of Euro II–III trucks (some markets have restrictions)
- Confirm RHD or LHD requirement
- Check your port's handling capacity for a loaded flat-rack or RoRo — some secondary ports have limitations
- Have your import permit or exemption documentation ready before the vessel sails
- Arrange pre-delivery inspection by a third party if your bank or insurer requires it — we accommodate this
