Used HOWO Tractor Head for Sale — T7H, T7, NX, TX & 371 Models

The HOWO tractor head is the most traded Chinese prime mover in sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East — and for good reason. Parts are available in Nairobi, Lagos, Kampala and Dubai. Workshops know the WD615 engine. And the purchase price is a fraction of a comparable Volvo or MAN. At Sigma Truck we stock a full range of used HOWO tractor trucks: the workhorse 371 6x4, the modern T7H and NX 6x4 flagships, the fuel-efficient TX 6x4, and the high-output T7 4x2 running the MC11 440HP driveline. Every unit is physically inspected in China, refurbished to our standard, and shipped CIF to your port — Mombasa, Lagos, Durban, Dar es Salaam, Dubai or wherever your business needs it.

Why Buyers Choose a Used HOWO Tractor Truck

When operators in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria or Iraq are comparing prime movers, a used HOWO tractor truck consistently wins on three points:

  • Price vs. payload: A fully refurbished HOWO 6x4 tractor delivers high GCW ratings — performance that European brands charge two to three times more for.
  • Parts everywhere: WD615 engine parts, HW19710 gearbox kits, and cabin spares are stocked in virtually every commercial vehicle market across East and West Africa. Downtime stays short.
  • Terrain-tested: The 6x4 twin-rear-axle layout puts power through six wheels, giving solid traction on unpaved roads, quarry tracks and partially graded highway routes common across Uganda, Zambia and Ghana.
  • Sinotruk HOWO brand recognition: Fleet managers and financiers in the region already know the sinotruk howo tractor truck — no convincing required.

Where Japanese trucks like Isuzu and Hino suit lighter applications, and European trucks command premium parts costs, the HOWO prime mover sits in the sweet spot for heavy semi-trailer haulage on a realistic operating budget.

The Two Drivelines: 371HP Classic vs 440HP Premium

The WD615.47 is the engine that built HOWO's reputation across Africa. Rebuild kits are cheap and widely available. The MC11 is HOWO's newer platform — more power, 12 forward speeds, and a larger fuel tank for longer inter-city runs. Both are proven under load in hot climates.

6x4 vs 4x2 — Which Axle Layout Do You Need?

Most operators in Africa and the Middle East default to the HOWO 6x4 tractor for good reason: two driven rear axles spread the load, grip unpaved surfaces better, and handle heavier semi-trailers. If your routes are paved highways and GCW stays moderate, the 4x2 cuts tyre wear and fuel cost.

  • 6x4 (T7H, NX, TX, 371): Preferred for mining, aggregate, and long-haul on mixed-surface roads. Standard in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Iraq and UAE bulk operations.
  • 4x2 (T7): 440HP MC11 engine with 12-speed gearbox makes it capable on sealed highways. Lower unladen weight improves payload-to-GCW ratio on tarmac corridors.

We carry stock of both configurations. Tell us your route and trailer weight; we will match the right unit. You can also browse our full tractor trucks range including other brands.

HOWO Model Range at a Glance — T7H, T7, NX, TX, 371

Sigma Truck keeps rolling stock across the full sinotruk howo 6x4 tractor truck lineup. Here is what each model brings to your fleet:

  • HOWO T7H 6x4 — Modern wide-cab flagship. WD615.47 371HP, HW19710 10-speed, 400L tank. Strong at high GCW; popular in South Africa and UAE for tri-axle semi-trailer combinations.
  • HOWO T7 4x2 — The premium highway unit. MC11.44-50 440HP, HW19712L 12-speed, 600L tank. More power, lighter unladen weight, suited to sealed-road long-haul in East Africa and the Gulf.
  • HOWO NX 6x4 — A cab-forward design with good driver visibility. WD615.47 371HP, HW19710, 400L tank. Handles rough terrain well; frequently requested by buyers in Uganda and Tanzania.
  • HOWO TX 6x4 — Updated exterior styling over the classic 371 with the same proven WD615.47 371HP powertrain. Good residual value; parts interchangeable with most HOWO 6x4 stock in the field.
  • HOWO 371 6x4 — The original and still the most abundant used unit in the market. WD615.47 371HP, HW19710 10-speed, 400L tank. Parts supply is among the best of any Chinese truck globally. See our dedicated howo 371 page for full details.

All models share the 12R22.5 tyre size — one spec to stock in your workshop. Compare models side by side in the grid below.

Refurbishment, LHD/RHD Conversion and CIF Export

Every HOWO tractor head we export goes through a documented pre-shipment process:

  • Physical inspection at our China yard — engine, gearbox, frame, cab, electrics.
  • Refurbishment to agreed standard: oil and filter service, brake system check, worn tyres replaced, cab repaint if required.
  • Left-hand drive or right-hand drive conversion done in-house. This matters: South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia are RHD markets. We handle the conversion so you receive a road-legal unit at your port.
  • Export documentation: bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin — all prepared for customs clearance.
  • CIF shipping to ~40 countries. Typical destinations: Durban, Mombasa, Lagos/Apapa, Dar es Salaam, Kampala (via Mombasa), Dubai Jebel Ali, Aqaba, Basra.

We work with freight forwarders who specialise in used vehicle exports from China, so transit times and documentation are predictable. Contact us with your destination port and we provide a CIF price within 48 hours.

Buyer Checklist — What to Confirm Before You Order

Buying a used howo tractor truck CIF from China involves a few decisions. Work through this list before you send an inquiry:

  1. Drive side: Is your country LHD (Iraq, UAE, most of West Africa) or RHD (South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Ghana)? We convert in-house.
  2. Axle config: 6x4 for heavy or mixed-surface work; 4x2 for highway-only lighter loads.
  3. Engine preference: 371HP WD615 (proven, cheapest parts) or 440HP MC11 (more power, longer range).
  4. GCW requirement: What semi-trailer are you pulling and what is the gross combination weight? This determines the model.
  5. Quantity: Single unit or fleet order? Fleet orders (5+ units) allow us to sort by year range and engine hours.
  6. Destination port: CIF price varies by port. Confirm your port so we can quote accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a HOWO tractor head and a HOWO tractor truck?
They are the same vehicle — the prime mover (cab + engine + drive axles) without a body. 'Tractor head' is the common term in Africa and the Middle East; 'tractor truck' or 'prime mover' is used in other markets. All units we sell are semi-trailer tractors rated for heavy GCW operation.
Which HOWO tractor is best for South Africa?
Most South African operators choose the HOWO T7H 6x4 or the classic HOWO 371 6x4 in RHD configuration. Both run the WD615.47 371HP engine whose parts are widely available in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The T7H has a larger cab and more modern features; the 371 has the lowest entry price and highest parts availability. If you need trucks for sale in south africa with a fast turnaround, contact us for current RHD stock.
Do you convert HOWO tractors from LHD to RHD?
Yes. LHD-to-RHD conversion is done in-house at our China facility before shipment. We supply RHD units to South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and other right-hand traffic markets. The converted unit arrives at your port fully assembled and road-ready.
What engine does the HOWO 371 tractor head use?
The HOWO 371 uses the WD615.47 engine rated at 371HP, paired with the HW19710 10-speed gearbox and a 400L fuel tank. The same driveline is used in the T7H, NX, and TX models. The T7 4x2 uses a different platform — the MC11.44-50 rated at 440HP with a 12-speed gearbox.
How long does CIF delivery take from China to Africa?
Transit time depends on the destination port. Mombasa and Dar es Salaam typically take 20–28 days from Chinese port departure; Durban 25–35 days; Lagos/Apapa 28–35 days; Dubai Jebel Ali 14–18 days. We provide the bill of lading and estimated arrival date once the vessel is booked.
Can I order a single HOWO tractor head or do I need to buy in bulk?
We supply both single units and fleet orders. Single-unit buyers get the same inspection and refurbishment standard as fleet customers. For fleet orders of five or more units, we can sort stock by year range, engine hours, and model mix to match your operational requirements.

Tell us your destination port and axle preference — we'll send you matching stock with CIF price within 48 hours.
